The story behind the track’s appearance on the EP is a sweet one. It was written when she was 17 years old, before her move to Los Angeles, and because it happens to be her mom’s all-time favorite song of hers, what better time to release it other than now?
The song pops off with an energetic “If I give in, you gonna stop doing all that you should. One argument, you giving me everything I want.” This paints the scene of initial frustration in the relationship where things only happen because she brings attention to them, not because her man actually wants to do them.
The message continues into the chorus with “I need you but I don’t, I’m leaving but I won’t, come see me leave me alone, hate you but I love you more” portraying the constant back and forth of negative thoughts and positive emotions that are ever present in most hot and heavy relationships. She accurately puts into words what many romantics can only feel in a track that shows off her authentic and soulful vocals.
