"The percentage of women taking up key roles in the music industry is absurdly low, and that I'm part of the women who make up only 20% of singers, 12% of songwriters, and 2% of producers. I just want other women artists to be inspired to put their work out there."

Relationships are a challenge. They are easy to get into but hard to maintain when the initial stages of excitement are over. One of the two people involved may leave instead of working it out, and so on. We've all experienced this, perhaps have been on different ends of the situation. R&B artist Julia Denise Lee, who goes by her artist name Denise Julia, expresses her dissatisfaction with a significant other that left during rough times in her latest track "Difficult".

In the chorus, "We're gettin' too cyclical, is loving too difficult?" we get a glimpse of what this track is about. It's a relationship going back and forth to the point of toxicity, and it ends with Denise asking: "In the end was I that difficult to love that you gave up on me so easily?"

The atmospheric production complements the toxicity of the lyrics perfectly, with the slow claps building up the momentum of the track and allowing Denise's imposing vocals to take center stage in the song. According to Denise Julia, the writing process was quick, it took her only 10 minutes to write the song, with her freestyling the second verse. It was all-natural, there were no second thoughts when it came to writing this song the lyrics and the atmosphere came naturally.

Denise Julia may only have 3 songs under her belt, for now, releasing her first widely available track "High on Me" on August 31st last year. She has been, however, writing since she was 13 and eventually installing a few DAW's to learn production. It started getting serious for her when she posted her songs on the internet and producers started to reach out. She has now reached milestones with her songs in Spotify editorial playlists like New Music Friday, OPM Rising, Fresh Finds Philippines, and Pinas Vibes.

Denise Julia has only started making waves in the Philippine music industry, but her caliber is already comparable to top-notch R&B artists like DVSN and Summer Walker. Make sure to watch this promising and talented R&B artist and keep an eye out for more of her projects this year.
